Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN: 'Essential' Video To Receive DVD Release In The Fall
August 21, 2005Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman's official web site has been updated with the following message:
"Marty's fans will not want to miss a special episode of [Japanese TV show] 'Hebimetasan' this Tuesday night (Aug. 23) when one of Marty's idols, Japanese living legend Yashiro Aki, joins him for a performance and more. For those of you outside of Japan who don't know who Yashiro Aki is, she is a singer of 'Enka' music, and Marty was very influenced by her voice in his formative years as a guitarist. Some of the 'exotic' sound in Marty's playing can be traced to her vocal style.
"Also, Marty will make an appearance on Nippon Television's 'Mina no Terebi', which is Japan's equivalent to England's 'Top of the Pops'. This nationwide broadcast will air at 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday night (Aug. 24).
"There is a full-color spread on Marty in the September issue of 'Ongaku to Hito', as well as 'Young Animal', 'Young Jump', 'Telepal' (Japan's TV guide) and 'Continue', 'Fool's Mate' (with current live shots with Kirito),'DMS' and many more to come. Also an interview and contest to meet Marty will be in the next 'Pia' magazine (Japan's equivalent to 'People' magazine).
"Marty and [Japanese pop singer] Aikawa Nanase have a song in the upcoming Sony Playstation 2 game 'Heavy Metal Thunder' (release date Sept. 1). The song is called 'Love Terrorist' and marks the first songwriting collaboration between the two. The game and the hype revolving around it is a big part of the current heavy metal boom in Japan. The elaborate game is about 2 years in the making and will doubtlessly be the representative of rock/metal in the gaming world. The soundtrack CD, which includes 'Love Terrorist', as well as contributions by SEX MACHINE GUNS, Michael Schenker, Rolly and more, will be released by Toshiba EMI in September.
"Marty is currently on tour with Kirito, in between touring dates he is in the studio continuing recording tracks for his next solo album. The second Tokyo show (Aug. 28) will be filmed for a live DVD.
"In other DVD news, 'The Essential Marty Friedman', which was originally released only on VHS, will be available on DVD this fall."
